2016 Jaguar XJ vs Jaguar XF
Serving Clearwater, Tampa, Largo, St. Petersburg, Palm Harbor, FL
When you hear the name Jaguar the cars that come to mind are sleek and powerful luxury sedans. The top billing among Jaguar sedans belongs to the mid-size Jaguar XF and the flagship full-size Jaguar XJ. Both cars share the key components of Jaguar DNA: blistering fast performance, stylish and refined appearance and a commitment to unparalleled safety. However, looking at the two cars closely, differences in their design and purpose become evident. We've compared the 2016 Jaguar XJ to the 2016 Jaguar XF so that you have all the information you need when choosing you next Jaguar.
Performance
Neither of the two models can ever be described as slow. The entry-level models of both the XF and the XJ are powered by the same engine – a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that makes an impressive 340 horsepower. However for Jaguar, that is just the beginning. The smaller and more nimble XF can also be equipped with the same 3.0-liter, but tuned up to produce 380 horsepower instead – more than enough for the mid-size sedan. But if it is raw power that you are looking for, the XJ Supercharged and the XJR models are equipped with a 5.0-liter V8. The engine tuning on the supercharged model serves up 470 horsepower, while the XJR tops out at a massive 550 horsepower. Both cars are equipped with responsive and smooth 8-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmissions and both are also available with an optional all-wheel drive system. As befits a true Jaguar, however, even the all-wheel drive models favor the rear wheels in clear conditions.
Appearance
Side by side, the 2016 XF and the 2016 XJ look like siblings: their family resemblance is undeniable, but it is clear that their style and interests have gone in different directions. The smaller XF looks right at home among the stylish mid-size luxury sedans. While it retains the classic Jaguar rounded roof line, the dark front grille and the sharp lines of the front fascia give it an aggressive look suggestive of a jet fighter cockpit. It is clearly young, modern and exciting. The XJ, on the other hand, radiates sophistication. The front end is more rounded than the XF and the bright and shiny front grille is reminiscent of the classic British full-size luxury sedans. The longer wheelbase and the more stretched out roof line make the XF seem larger and more dignified than its smaller cousin. It is a car that clearly demonstrates rank and prestige of its driver.
Safety
The Jaguar XF and the Jaguar XJ do not skimp anywhere and safety is just another area where both cars accept nothing short of excellence. Both cars are equipped with modern active safety technologies: blind spot monitors, lane departure warnings and back up cameras. Bluetooth is, likewise, a standard feature. The more advanced features include an autonomous braking system that detects vehicles or obstacles rapidly approaching and brakes if the driver takes no evasive action. Also available are surround view cameras that let you see all around the car when parking.
The 2016 Jaguar XF is a powerful luxury sports car hidden in the body of a mid-size sedan. The 2016 Jaguar XJ is a full-size luxury automobile with plenty of power under the hood to make your drive fun. Both vehicles are impressive and choosing which of the two is better comes down to personal preference.
